D1 1968 INTERVIEW NUMBER 1 Numeric 4 0 1-4

Question
1968 Interview Number

Explanation
This variable is the l968 family ID number. The combination of this variable and Person Number (D2) provides unique identification for each individual on the data file. Individuals associated with families from the Latino sample, added to the PSID in 1990 and 1992, and from the Immigrant sample, added to the PSID in 1997, were assigned 1968 IDs so that they, too, have unique identifiers compatible with the PSID structure for the core (SRC and Census)sample.

Code Description
1-2930 Member of, or moved into, a family from the 1968 SRC cross-section sample
3001-344 Member of, or moved into, a family from the Immigrant sample added in 1997
5001-687 Member of, or moved into, a family from the 1968 Census sample

This category also includes individuals from the Latino or Immigrant samples, other than the spouse of the original 1990 or 1997 Head, who moved out in the year preceding the 1990 or 1997 interview. These individuals are always nonsample.
