Two-day Conference on Life Course Financial Well-Being

The Panel Study of Income Dynamics, with support from the National Institute on Aging, will hold a two-day conference on life course financial well-being November 20-21, 2008 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The PSID has included extensive information on pensions, wealth, consumption/expenditures, health, and other relevant domains in various years since the survey began in 1968. All of these domains are measured in the last several waves.

The goals of this conference are to bring together scholars in the area of life course financial well-being to generate additional scientific and policy-relevant findings, facilitate future collaborations including NIH proposal submissions, and provide feedback to PSID about possible needs for content changes and/or future data collections.

  The 40th anniversary of the PSID was celebrated at the 78th Annual Meeting of Eastern Sociological Society at the Roosevelt Hotel, New York City. The program is attached here.
  
  
•   December 5-6, 2007
  The PSID hosted a two-day conference on the Event History Calendar Method for the U.S. Census Bureau on December 5-6, 2007 in Washington, DC. The goal of the conference was to provide scientific expertise to the Census in the enhancement of the SIPP in the area of event history calendars as a data collection tool.

•   March 29-March 31, 2007
  PSID and the Child Development Supplement will hold an exhibit at the annual meeting of the Population Association of America in New York City (See http://www.popassoc.org/meetings.html for meeting details). A special session on childhood obesity will feature research based on the Child Development Supplement (Session 302: Causes and Consequences of Overweight and Obesity in Children and Youth Organizer, Chair: Dean Jolliffe, U.S. Department of Agriculture and Discussant: Chad Meyerhoefer, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality).
  
  
•   September 12-14, 2006
  The Centre for Longitudinal Studies (CLS) at the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), University of London, is hosting the International Conference on Child Cohort Studies, September 12-14, 2006 at Catherine's College, Oxford, England. The objective of the conference is to promote communication and comparison between those designing, conducting and analyzing large-scale birth cohort studies in different countries that began around the turn of the new millennium. Tina Mainieri will be presenting information about the Child Development Supplement to the PSID. (Conference Web Site)

  Jean Yeung led a panel session to discuss the potential and uses of the PSID at the annual meeting of the American Sociological Association in Montreal, Quebec on August 12.

  The Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID) held a free 3-hour workshop entitled "Introduction to Using the Panel Study of Income Dynamics and its Child Development Supplement" one day prior to the annual meeting of the Population Association of America (PAA) on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 from 2:00-5:00 pm, at the Philadelphia Marriott in Conference Rooms 401-402, Level Four.

  PSID staff hosted a workshop addressing the topic of time use measurement in the PSID from the perspectives of psychology, sociology, and economics.
